DPT Program Overview
The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT 5 years) degree program includes basic medical science courses, such as anatomy, physiology, histology, medicine, surgery, biochemistry, pharmacology, pathology, microbiology, and radiology/imaging, along with behavioral science courses. In the degree program, students also learn clinical-based courses like medical screening, diagnostic processes, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, neurosurgery, musculoskeletal physiotherapy, neurological physiotherapy, cardiopulmonary physiotherapy, therapeutic interventions, sports physiotherapy, geriatrics, outcome assessment, and practice management. The DPT degree also fulfills the international requirements for physical therapy registration, and DPT graduates can obtain equivalency abroad in most countries.

Physiotherapy Practice
Physiotherapists work autonomously and often as a team member with other health or social care professionals. Physiotherapy practice is characterized by reflective behavior and systematic clinical reasoning, both contributing to and underpinning a problem-solving approach to patient-centric care.

Career Specialization in Physiotherapy
According to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), physiotherapists can work in 24 specialties of medical, surgical, and allied disciplines, including musculoskeletal, orthopedics, cardiopulmonary, neurology, pediatrics, sports medicine, rheumatology, geriatrics, medical conditions, pain management, women’s health, oncology, and public health, etc.

Physiotherapists: Roles and Autonomy
Physiotherapists have established roles within the community and practice in a variety of healthcare settings, including private clinics, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, community centers, workplaces, patients’ homes, community outreach teams, professional sports teams, palliative care facilities, research facilities, and universities. Physiotherapists collaborate with other healthcare professionals to achieve treatment goals for their clients with acute or chronic conditions. According to the APTA, doctors of physical therapy are first-line healthcare professionals, and patients can come to them independently.

In Pakistan up to Ph.D. education is available in the field of physiotherapy. Graduates of physiotherapy are eligible for jobs in govt.
and private sector and can also pursue their future abroad.
